13th October 2022 ISSUE 02

It's been a very busy autumn term as our competition calendar is underway.

Cross Country

We had our largest entry of schools for this years cross country on Wednesday 5th October held at Garons Park. With over 1800 pupils running in the event from KS1 through to KS2. Pupils competed in very windy conditions but all ran around with smiles on their faces or at least once they had finished there were smiles and sheer looks of delight as they crossed the finish line. The year 3 & 4 cross country course was extended slightly this year to bridge the gap between the distance of the year 5 & 6 course, we are pleased to say it was a success and will remain going forwards.

A huge thank you to both Southend High School for girls and Westcliff High school for girls for providing us with their sports leaders to help assist in marshalling, running as hares and tortoises.

Community exit routes: Local Clubs

We like to provide community exit routes for our young people to follow on from the sports that they participate in. There are 3 local athletic clubs:

Southend Under 11s Athletics club: kirkedwards@secat.co.uk

Girls Football

We held our first girls' football competition last Friday 7th October at the Len Forge Centre. It was an emerging competition, with an emphasis on inviting schools who perhaps haven't had a girls' football team in the past to come together and celebrate football through a tournament.

After the success of England's Lionesses we are driving girls football in the city of Southend. We had 11 schools competing in the tournament, with girls playing at a tournament for the very first time and representing their school for the very first time.

The top 3 schools go through to the main girl's football competition on Friday 21st October at the Len Forge centre.

Girls District Football:

We are in the process of setting up a girls district football team to represent Southend in the Essex Schools FA girls league. Trials will start shortly with girls being invited to come along to the trials. Keep an eye out for any letters. Girls who played in both the emerging and the main girls football competition will be invited along with any recommendations from schools. All training will be held at Garons Park on the 3G.

Panathlon:

Panathon Ten Pin bowling took place on Monday and Tuesdsay 10th/11th October, an event for our SEN pupils from our develop strand.

Held at Hollywood Bowl in Basildon, pupils participated in bowling games against other schools from in around Southend and the local areas. Some children represented their schools for the very first time and the look of passion and self belief on their pupils faces was incredible to see.

A competition that all of our schools and pupils love.

Tag Rugby

Our year 5 & 6 tag rugby competition was held at SRFC on Wednesday 12th October, we had 12 schools participating in what was a very close day of competitions. The standard of play across the entire day was exceptional and games were only won by a try or two. Well done to all participating schools.
