Football, Dodgeball, Panathlon, Southend City Awards, Goalball, Football finals, more Dodegball, Eco Youth board applications and the World Cup 2022!!

It's been a busy 3 weeks in the Southend sports partnership.

We have been celebrating our 6 school games values within our competitions and have been awarding pupils with medals when we or another school's member of staff has noticed a value being achieved at one of our events.

The 6 school games values are:

You may notice your child/pupil coming home with one of our medals in recognition of their achievements, please do ask them what they did to receive their medal.

A big thank you to our committed and supportive schools who enable their staff and pupils to participate in as many sporting opportunities as possible.

On behalf of the SPSSA we strive to offer as many sporting opportunities to the young people in Southend. So children can represent their schools and to enable them to develop a passion for sport and physical activity.

Boys Football competitions:

Our Boys football tournament is underway, with our emerging year 5 and 6 competition taking part on Friday 11th November at the Len Forge centre with 12 schools participating.

The Emerging competitions are for schools who have pupils who perhaps don't play football outside of school, only have 1 player who plays outside of school  or schools who have more than 1 team.

Our winning schools who went through to the main tournament on Friday 18th November were:

Joint winners:

St Helens and Prince Avenue,

Joint 3rd place:

St Marys and Eastwood

Local football clubs

We like to provide community exit routes for our young people to follow on from the sports that they participate in. Local football clubs:

*In Southend we are very lucky and have many opportunities to join local football clubs. These are just two examples should you wish to join a club.

Goalball:

Goalball is a visually impaired sport, pupils use a bell ball to listen to the direction of the ball. The game is played in absolute silence with only the ball making a sound. Pupils roll and throw the ball into the opponent's goal line.
Line markers are used to signify the court and to help guide pupils the direction in which they are in using arrows on the floor.

This competition is always a big hit for our schools and everyone enjoys the quietness of the game.

Panathlon

On Thursday 10th November 4 of our schools were invited to a special swimming gala held at The Aquatic centre in Stratford. The gala was run by Panathlon and they had support from the swimming brand Speedo who had members of the team who had flown in specifically in celebration of the competition from as far as New Zealand, Hong Kong and America.

Our schools in attendance representing Southend were; West Leigh, Darlinghurst, Richmond and Hinguar.

The gala was run specifically for pupils with SEN and disabilities to build their confidence in the water and enjoy competing against other schools in fun swimming activities.

The Aquatic centre is an iconic venue and was during the London 2012 Olympic Games. The children were lucky enough to have met some of Britain's Diving Commonwealth and European medallists as well as watching them practising their diving skills.

We look forward to hearing all about the next Panathlon event running on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th November with even more of our schools in attendance.                                     Good Luck!
