We are delighted to see the continued progression with girls football as we held our second girls football competition on Friday 21st October at the Len Forge Centre. This was our year 5/6 girls main football tournament, the follow on from our girls emerging competition that was run on Friday 7th October. We had 11 schools participating in the day. There were some very close matches.

final results from the day:

3rd Fairways

The standard of girls football in Southend is so inspiring and we are delighted to see it continue to rise with increased participation.

Local football clubs

We like to provide community exit routes for our young people to follow on from the sports that they participate in. Local football clubs:

What is the School Games?

The School Games comprises of both Intra and Inter-school competitions leading to a School Games County Provision/Offer as well as a biennial National Finals event.

What is the mission?

Putting physical activity and competitive sport at the heart of schools and providing more young people with the opportunity to compete and achieve their personal best.

What is the vision?

The School Games will continue to make a clear and meaningful difference to the lives of even more children and young people.

  • Our School Games Organisers for Southend are Kirk Edwards (Southend East) and Kirsty Fitzgibbon (Southend West) they work collaboratively to run and organise the sporting events for the primary and secondary schools in Southend.

The Spirit of the Games values of eco friendly, determination, honesty, passion, respect, self-belief, and teamwork were developed by young people to identify what the experience of school sport should be built around and they focus on personal excellence through competition.

These values have been successfully applied by schools to develop a range of behaviours, qualities and inter-personal skills with their students based on sporting experiences, scenarios, and attitudes.

Basketball

We held our first basketball competition of the term on Wednesday 2nd November at The Eastwood Academy. The teams were made up of a squad of 12 players, 6 boys and 6 girls, with 5 playing on the court at any one time. The boys played the first half followed by the girls for the second half so it really was a game of two halves.

The day was split up into 3 smaller groups of schools competing for one of three places in the finals that are being held on Thursday 1st December.

The standard was very high and matches were very very close, with games being won within the last few seconds.

A big thank you to Matt Seaman from Scorpians Basketball Academy who umpired all of the games.

The finalist from the 3 groups were:

Heycroft, Bournemouth Park Academy and Thorpe Hall

Local Basketball club
