Southend Virtual Challenges
Due to the current restrictions with sporting events and competitions we are pleased to say Southend West is running its very first virtual competitions for this half term. There are three different sports competitions to enter, each competition has rules for each of the three age categories (KS1, LKS2 & UKS2).
Schools can decide when to run their events within their schools and bubbles and then submit the results by completing a score sheet or submitting videos.
The three virtual sports are:
Sportshall Athletics
Gymnastics Key Steps (Key Step 1= KS1, Key Step 2= Years 3/4 , Key Step 3 = Year 5/6 )
Cheerleading
Schools can decide how many events or how many age groups they wish to enter. The rules have been sent out to each of the schools and there are videos for guidance for each of the three sports. Please ensure you have read the rules clearly and submit the correct amount for each sport and age group.
The deadline for each of the sports:
Sportshall Athletics: 23rd October
Gymnastics Key Steps: 13th November
Cheerleading: 13th November
Once all the entries are in, we will select the winners who will then go through to the Essex Virtual School Games Finals competing against all the other schools in Essex. There will be medals for winning schools.
2020 Olympic Year
Happy new year and welcome back to another exciting year of sport within Southend and welcome to an exciting Olympic year.
Tokyo 2020 runs from July-August, we look forward to organising and hosting events linked to Tokyo.
Milton Hall Sitting Volleyball Champions
On Wednesday 11th December we held our sitting volleyball competition, an inclusive 6v6 game where teams aim to hit a ball over a net and land it within the opposition's court. Teams have three passes, to form an attacking play, before the ball has to go over the net. Sitting Volleyball requires players to maintain contact between their bottom and the floor at all times.
Handball Champions Prince Avenue
Five schools came together on Thursday 5th December to compete for the Handball title at Garons leisure centre. A very fun morning of dribbling, passing, running, shooting and defending the ball.
Bournes Green Kurling Champions
At todays New Age Kurling competition a record breaking twenty schools battled it out to become champions. New Age Kurling which is an inclusive sport offers the opportunity for every child to compete.
