Hamstel Infant School

PE & Sport

Hamstel Infant School is a large Infant and Nursery School.  Pupils enjoy a rich range of activities, visiting places around the local community to share their skills and taking part in a full active sporting programme.

Physical activity develops the children's knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities.  We aim to develop the children's enjoyment of physical activity through creativity and imagination, and teach children to recognise and describe how their bodies feel during exercise.

Pupils experience a range of activities in the delivery of the PE Curriculum, including, net/wall, striking and fielding, and invasion games; gymnastics; dance; athletics; orienteering.  Pupils swim each week in the school's own swimming pool and this, together with massage sessions, vegetable growing and an excellent understanding of how to stay fit, healthy and safe boosts their personal development.

Hamstel Infant School is fully involved in the competitive sports fixtures for KS1, experiencing excellent success once again this season.  This season our children have already had been involved in the following tournaments/festivals:

Sports Hall Athletics : Reception

Sports Hall Athletics : Year 1 & 2

Creative Dance Festival : KS1

All year groups are given the opportunity to be involved with competitive festivals, and we are looking forward to further fixtures later in the year; Athletics, Tag Rugby, Football to name but a few.

We have recently re-organised lunchtimes at Hamstel Infants providing lots of opportunities for pupils to be engaged in physical activities for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. With an enthusiastic midday team organising a rota of fun and active zones using the Top Activity resources and equipment as a stimulus.
