Thorpe Greenways Infants

Thorpe Greenways Infant School is situated in the residential area of Thorpe Bay on the outskirts of Southend. The Infant school is of four form entry, accommodating 120 children, in each of the year groups:  Reception, Year One and Year Two.

Physical Education in our school

Our school currently does up to two hours of curriculum PE per week, with one indoor PE session and a field and playground for outdoor PE and lunchtime play activities. At Thorpe Greenways  Infants our children also participate in daily "Activate" sessions for 15 minutes per day, 10 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the afternoon, moving our school towards the national '5 hour offer'.

We promote physical activity to all children in the school and provide lessons which are inclusive to all.  Children in Year Two have the opportunity to take part in a range of after school clubs. Most recently we have offered karate, gymnastics and football, all sports we haven't offered previously. Other successful sports we have run previously have included: street dance, country dance, multi-skills, and tag rugby.

Every lunchtime and break time we 'zone' the playground/field into areas, where children can develop skills in different areas, creating a more structured, and physical break. We are now looking to implement the Sainsbury's lunchtime play scheme in our school with a new and diverse range of sporting activities, such as cheerleading, skipping, circus skills, rock-it ball and many more.

We regularly enter most competitions and festivals. In the past we have won Key Stage One Sports Hall Athletics Tournaments a few years running and were also winners of the South East. Other achievements include winning tag rugby and football. We offer a wide range of sports for all, so hopefully we are offering opportunities for lots of children to join in and have fun!

Statement: The Southend Primary Schools Sports Association are committed to the continual safeguarding of our children.
